Tekken

Here goes nothing, my first movie review.

So we all played Mortal Combat, Street Fighter, Tekken... Then came something else, the death of these games. Via movies. Mortal Combat movie; watched it, never touched the game again. Street fighter movie; destroyed the diskete after. 2010, here comes Tekken.

First time I met the Tekken game was on a ski trip to France, when i realised that its cheaper to blow 5 franks on a 20 minute Tekken match then on a 2min Time Crysis point and shoot arcade. And i'll be damned if that wasnt the best spent 2 hours. It was Tekken 3 and controling Armor King was one of the most enjoyable things i had that ski trip apart from broken wrists. The whole franchise itself didn't leave a spot in my gamer heart but eventualy i got around playing Tekken 5 on PS2. Enjoyable but nothing remarkable.

Now, I see the trailer, TEKKEN THE MOVIE. No cinema screening in my country, good job Karantanija Films, as long as Sex in the City 2 is sold out everyone is happy. I got the movie on a way i'm not proud of but I realy can't afford to go to watch it in a foreign country or wait for the TV release in 5 years.

As we're used to changing the plot in game to movie conversions the plot itself was turned a bit but for someone who isnt a game enthustiast it will be satisfing. The movie itself starts explaining how the world turned up as fucked up as it is, after the world war emerged there were 8 corporations taking over everything and are currently runing the world, Tekken being one of these corporations. We follow the story of young Jin, an asian kid living on the outscirts of Tekken city, the poor and crime infested part known as the Anvil. He goes around geting everyday paycheck by being a skilled curier trough a gang zone, and as we soon find out aparently also as a master of marshal arts. After his mother, who tought him all he knows about fighting, gets killed by soldiers of the Tekken corp he wows revenge on the CEO of the corporation Heihachi Mishima, the gray old man we all know and love from the Tekken games. After competing in the local tournament he defeats the champion of the Iron Fist tournament, a match set on determening the strenght of coprorations ruling the world. *Warning spoilers ahead*. Standard story, he goes to the tournament, finds out that Heihachi is actualy his grandfather, his father Kazuya, the heir to the Tekken corporation is actualy the main antagonist of the movie, who gets scared that his bastard son will take over the corporation after wining the tournament and impresing grampa Heihachi. In the end, Jin wins the tournament, falls in love and all ends well. Apart from him having scored 2 chicks in the movie he isnt such a bad person but the end suggest a sequel, maybe even starting with Jin as the main antagonist. *Spoilers end here*

Over all the movie itself wasnt bad, marshal arts presentation was great, story was followed nice, as was the main characters development. They entered some of the fighters from the game, missed King to be honest but that wasnt such a minus. What was the minus was the bad acting from some side actors and not inserting the pact with the devil and the demons into the movie, it is my opinion that it would be a great touch. Visual effects were satisfing. What was for me the bigest plus and \o/ of the movie was the music and sound: Amazing.

Overall my raiting of the movie was around 7.0 / 10. There is one scene of the movie that was... quite remarkable.
